La Vanguardia: Because not everything that is gold shines

  • Tracemark allows jewellery companies to guarantee the traceability of jewellery and diamonds to avoid bad practices.

A report denouncing how human rights are violated in jewellery has awakened the conscience of Berta Serret and her father Josep Miquel Serret, executive director of the jewellery firm Facet. “It is a very opaque industry, in which more than a million children work in gold mines, a mineral which, in turn, is responsible for 30% of the mercury which contaminates the oceans,” denounced Berta Serret. “It’s not very well known, but the jewellery industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world,” she adds.

“After seeing the report, we couldn’t just sit back and watch, so we started working on creating a system to be able to track the story behind each jewel,” explains the entrepreneur. They started the project in August 2019 and the launch of Tracemark was not until September this year, after an investment of 600,000 euros.
